College Football - Christmas Bowl Update!

Below are the current standings as we are a few games into Bowl Season and it is still a battle between Joel, B.I., Curt, and Young.  Myself, Doug, Jen, and now Tim have an outside shot of winning, while everyone else is eliminated.

All updates have been made  - Conference Champions, Conference Game Champions, and Points for Teams Selected to Bowl Games.  Also, updates continue for the division I-AA FCS Playoffs as those with NDSU, Towson, and Eastern Washington have continued to accumulate points in addition to Bowl game points.

Columns have been added that show each persons Total Possible Bowl Points, Actual Bowl Points, and Max Points Remaining.  Joel, Curt, and Young have the highest percentage chance to win, with B.I., Rick, Tim, Doug, and Jen behind them.  Everyone else with a red light is eliminated.

I have attached the spreadsheet with the full standings, but you can also see more frequent updates using this link.  The full standings will show who is leading in each of the other categories that have payouts at the end of the year, plus the expanded standings sections will show you how your specific teams are doing.

http://2013collegefootballseasonchallenge.blogspot.com/

Current Standings

Remember, half of the pool money pays out for winning specific categories, so even if you are not in 1st/2nd overall, you will still be paid out for winning the 4 categories below by season end.

Not much has changed here.  Curt is still winning the Non Conference Bonus, while Joel won the conference points category, and B.I. is in sole possession on Shut Outs + 50 Pts Total.  Early in Bowl Season Tim has now taken the lead in Bowl Win points!  Everyone (even Jack) is still eligible to win some money during Bowl Season.  The person with the most Bowl Win Points will win 25% of the Bonus Prize pool ($300/4 = $75), so you can almost double your entry fee!

Non Conference Wins and Shut Outs + 50 Points Totals still accumulate during Bowl Season, so those close still have a chance to win those.  Conference Win Point Totals ended with Conference Championship games, so Joel already won $75.

Good luck going into the next week of Bowl games, I will send more frequent updates as more games are played!

Good luck going into the Bowl games, I will send frequent updates!  B.I. and Amanda can still earn another win this Saturday in the Army/Navy game, they both have Navy, and that is factored in to the Max Possible Points.

College Football - Week 14 Complete

Below are the standings through week 14 and we still have a 5 way race to the finish.  B.I. is back in 1st place and Joel fell into second, followed by Young, Curt, and Myself.  Everyone from Doug and below are really out of reach from finishing 1st or 2nd overall, but can still will some of the bonus categories.

This was essentially the final week of regular season college football games, with this next week being the conference championship games.  As you look through the standings you will see most of the points for teams winning the regular season conference have been updated.  The next few weeks is when having good teams will rack up a ton of points.

Prior to the Bowl Games beginning, I will add everyone's total possible Bowl points along with Actual Total Bowl Points, and Max Points Possible due to the Bowl Games.  Remember, in addition to those Bowl points you will still accumulate points for wins, shut outs, and scoring 50+ points, but knowing the Total Possible Bowl Points will give everyone a sense of what is available to be earned.

College Football - Week 13 Complete

Below are the standings through week 13 and we have a 5 way race to the finish, possibly 7.  Joel is still holding on to 1st place and B.I. jumped into second, while Curt, Young, and Myself are essentially tied for 3rd.

Over the next few weeks I will be adding in points for conference champions in addition to the normal scoring, then the following week we will have conference championship game points in addition to normal scoring.  We should see a lot of points racked up over the next 2 weeks.

Prior to the Bowl Games beginning, I will add everyone's total possible Bowl points along with Max Points Possible due to the Bowl Games.  Remember, in addition to those Bowl points you will still accumulate points for wins, shut outs, and scoring 50+ points, but knowing the Total Possible Bowl Points will give everyone a sense of what is available to be earned.

Good luck going into week 14, only a few weeks of college football games remain, and then bowl games start in about 3 weeks.

College Football - Week 12 Complete

Below are the standings through week 12 and we have a few changes at the top.  Joel jumped up 2 spots and took over 1st place, while B.I. dropped to 3rd.  Jen and Christina swapped spots, but that was the only other change this week.

Remember that we will get a ton of points for conference champions and bowl games, so except for maybe a few down at the bottom in red/orange, no one is out of contention.

College Football - Week 11 Complete

Below are the standings through week 11 and not much has changed from the previous week. B.I. is still in1st place, however myself and Joel are still hanging with him.  Young and Curt swapped spots, but we have 7 people with 400+ points.  Ron somehow got out of last.

Remember that we will get a ton of points for conference champions and bowl games, so except for maybe a few down at the bottom in red, no one is out of contention.

College Football - Week 10 Complete

Below are the standings through week 10. B.I. has catapulted his way into 1st place, however myself and Joel are hanging with him.  Christina has sneakily increased her rankings by 1 spot over the past 3 weeks to put herself back in to contention, while Curt, Young, and Tim are all hanging at the top of the pack.

Remember that we will get a ton of points for conference champions and bowl games, so except for maybe a few down at the bottom in red, no one is out of contention.

College Football - Week 9 Complete

Below are the standings through week 9.  I somehow moved into the top spot, but we have 5 people all within 16 points.  Young took the biggest tumble this week moving down 3 spots, but anyone can take over 1st place any week.

Remember that we will get a ton of points for conference champions and bowl games, so except for maybe a few down at the bottom, no one is out of contention.

College Football - Week 8 Complete

Below are the standings through week 8.  Young is still holding the top spot, but a bunch of people have caught up to him after this week.  I moved into second place, while B.I. and Joel each dropped down by 1 spot.  Only 11 points separates the top 4 people now!

College Football - Week 7 Complete

Below are the standings through week 7.  Young and B.I. are still holding the top 2 spots, and Joel continues to close the gap, holding on to 3rd place now.  It's a very tight race in the top 7 spots.

This was an odd week with not a lot of scoring or major changes in the standings as only 2 teams scored 50+ points and no teams had a shut out.  Also, most of us exchanged out USC, San Diego State, and Texas going into week 7, and those teams had dominating performances, ooops!

I have attached the spreadsheet with the full standings, but you can also see more frequent updates using this link.  The full standings will show who is leading in each of the other categories that have payouts at the end of the year, plus the expanded standings sections will show you how your specific teams are doing.

College Football - Week 6 Complete

**By End of Day on Wednesday, 10/9 if you would like to swap out 3 of your teams for new teams going forward, please e-mail me your changes**

Below are the standings through week 6.  Young and B.I. are STILL holding the top 2 spots, and Joel continues to close the gap, holding on to 3rd place now.  Technically, Joel and I are tied for 3rd and Curt is only 1 point away from making it a 3 way tie for 3rd place.  It's a very tight race in the top 5 spots.

We are getting close to the halfway point of the season, but so many points are still going to be awarded for conference champions and bowl games.  No one is out of this yet, not even Ron or Jack.

If you select the "Extended Standings" tab on the spreadsheet and scroll over, you can see your highest and lowest performing teams.  This will help when trying to decide which teams you want to drop/pick up.  It also gives you an idea of how valuable teams that score 50+ points and shut others out are.

Florida State, Ohio State, and Oregon have been some of the best performing teams.  Tulsa and USC have been pretty much useless!

I have attached the spreadsheet with the full standings, but you can also see more frequent updates using this link.  The full standings will show who is leading in each of the other categories that have payouts at the end of the year, plus the expanded standings sections will show you how your specific teams are doing.

Curt is winning the Non Conference Bonus, while Young is winning the conference points category and Shut Outs + 50 Pts Total.

I may not be able to update the standings for next week, or it will end up being so late in the week that I send them out Wednesday night.  Either way, after next week I'll get back to sending the standings out right away.  I will also send out an update to everyone so you can see which teams everyone exchanged out and confirm yours is accurate.

Good luck going into week 7!

College Football - Week 5 Complete

After this next weekend of games, you will be able to e-mail me 3 team changes that you want to make, basically swapping out teams going forward.

Below are the standings through week 5.  Young and B.I. are still holding the top 2 spots, but Joel has jumped up 2 spots into 3rd place now.  Remember, I added 3 additional columns that show your current rank, last weeks rank, and your week over week change, which will allow you to see if you are moving up or down and compare it to everyone else.

Curt and myself are the only others over 200 points, but it really is bunched up and still no one is out of it.

I have attached the spreadsheet with the full standings, but you can also see more frequent updates using this link.  The full standings will show who is leading in each of the other categories that have payouts at the end of the year, plus the expanded standings sections will show you how your specific teams are doing.

Current Standings

Remember, half of the pool money pays out for winning specific categories, so even if you are not in 1st/2nd overall, you will still be paid out for winning the 4 categories below by season end.

Rick and Curt are winning the Non Conference Bonus, while Doug is winning the conference points category.  Also, as teams start playing tougher conference games it will make it harder to earn those shut out and scoring 50+ pts bonus's due to playing better opponents.

Good luck going into week 6!

College Football - Week 4 Complete

Below are the standings through week 4.  Young took over 1st place, jumping up 2 spots from the previous week.  I added 3 additional columns that show your current rank, last weeks rank, and your week over week change, which will allow you to see if you are moving up or down and compare it to everyone else.

B.I. is still going strong, but after that it is all bunched up between Doug, Curt, Joel, Christina the Aardvark, Rick, and Tim.  As you can see, the rankings can change a lot each week, except for Ron, he is consistently holding down last place.  Curt made the biggest jump from last week going up 6 spots, while Amanda had the biggest fall, going down 5 spots.

I have attached the spreadsheet with the full standings, but you can also see more frequent updates using this link.  The full standings will show who is leading in each of the other categories that have payouts at the end of the year, plus the expanded standings sections will show you how your specific teams are doing.

Current Standings

Young, B.I., and Curt are winning the Non Conference Bonus, while Andrew, although towards the bottom, is winning the conference points category.  We still have a long way to go as some college football teams have not even started their season yet, Southern Miss!  Also, as teams start playing tougher conference games it will make it harder to earn those shut out and scoring 50+ pts bonus's due to playing better opponents.

Good luck going into week 5!

College Football - Week 3 Complete

Below are the standings through week 3.  B.I. dominated again and has increased his lead due to many of his teams continuing to score 50+ points every week.  Doug and Young round out the top 3, with Tina, Joel, and Amanda all over 100 points.

Andrew and Ron are holding down the last 2 spots, but we still have a lot of season left so it would not be hard to go from last to first by the end of the season.  Also, many teams in college football have had bye weeks this week and last week, and some teams the season has not even started (i.e. Dartmouth).

I have attached the spreadsheet with the full standings, but you can also see more frequent updates using this link.  The full standings will show who is leading in each of the other categories that have payouts at the end of the year, plus the expanded standings sections will show you how your specific teams are doing.

Current Standings

Half of the pool money pays out for winning specific categories, so even if you are not in 1st/2nd overall, you will still be paid out for winning the 4 categories below by season end.

At this point, a good indicator on how good of a team you have is conference wins and non conference wins.  Many of the top performing entries are winning due to shut outs and scoring 50+ points on very bad FCS teams.  As we move into the conference schedule and tougher non conference games, those teams will not continue to get those bonus points (just look at Wisconsin from last night).

Good luck going into week 4!

College Football - Week 2 Complete

Below are the standings through week 2.  B.I., Doug, and Young are setting the pace by scoring in the 80's.  Rabitoy is the one falling behind by the most and Jen has taken the biggest fall in the standing!

I have attached the spreadsheet with the full standings, but you can also see more frequent updates using this link.  The full standings will show who is leading in each of the other categories that have payouts at the end of the year, plus the expanded standings sections will show you how your specific teams are doing.

College Football - Week 1 Update

Below are the standings through week 1, although we still have 3 games left to play today and tomorrow.  No surprise, Tina and Jen are leading early, but as with all sports pools they tend to fade away towards the end.

We saw a lot of bonus points for shut outs and teams scoring 50+ points in week 1, but as schedules become tougher we will see less of that.  I wouldn't expect scoring to continue to be this high, so everyone is still in it at this point.  No way Sam Houston State continues to get Tina 11 points every week!

If you see any mistakes in your scoring I do plan and going through it later today to update anything that I may have missed.

Thanks!

Kickoff Rules and Entry Post

Hi Everyone!

Below are the rules for a season long college football pool, if you are interested in playing please send your picks back by Sunday, 8/25.  It should only take a few minutes to make your picks.

The total cost is $40 with the overall money being split 50/50 into 2 separate prize pools:

Prize Pool One (Overall Points)
1st Place - 75% Payout
2nd Place - 25% Payout

Prize Pool Two (Category Points)
Most Conference Wins Points - 25% Payout
(Tiebreaker is your FCS Division I-AA Team(s))

Most Non Conference Wins Points - 25% Payout
(Tiebreaker is your FCS Division I-AA Team(s))

Most Bowl Wins Points - 25% Payout
Includes Bowl Wins only, not BCS Bowl Points
(Tiebreaker is your total BCS Bowl Points)

Most Combined 50+ Pts and Defensive Shutout Points - 25% Payout
(Tiebreaker is your FCS Division I-AA Team(s))

To play, fill out the attached spreadsheet with 1 team selection for each of the 19 conferences and e-mail it back to me no later than Sunday, 8/25. I included a drop down list for each conference to allow easy and accurate selections for that conference.

Ensure you fill out your name and E-mail address on the sheet prior to sending it back to me to avoid any confusion.   I will send out a master spreadsheet with everyone's picks prior to games beginning on Thursday, 8/29.  I will post updates with the current standing  at http://2013collegefootballseasonchallenge.blogspot.com/

Scoring System:  Points will be awarded throughout the entire season for various categories, with more points weighted towards the end of the season with bowl games.  This will ensure that not many people are not eliminated early in the season.  Below is the scoring system, which may impact which the teams you choose.

Non Conference Wins = 1 Point

Conference Wins = 2 Points

Conference Champion = 3 Points

Conference Title Game Champion = 5 Points

Selected to a Bowl Game = 1 Point

Win a Bowl Game = 2 Points *

*Making and winning a bowl game is 3 total points!

Sugar Bowl Champion = 5 Points**

Orange Bowl Champion = 5 Points**

Fiesta Bowl Champion = 5 Points**

Rose Bowl Champion = 5 Points**

National Champion = 10 Points***

**Winning these bowl games would give you 8 total points (Make Bowl, Win Bowl, BCS Bowl Champion)

***Winning this bowl games would give you 13  total points (Make Bowl, Win Bowl, BCS National Champion)

Your Team Shuts Out Opponent = 5 Points

Your Team Scored 50+ Points in a game = 5 Points

Your Team is Ranked #1 in the BCS Poll and Loses game = -10 Points

Exchange Rule:  Between Monday,  10/7 and Wednesday, 10/9 you will be able to change a total of 3 picks.  For example, if you have Illinois as a pick and they start out 1-6, you can use this opportunity to exchange them out for Ohio State.  Once you exchange a team you can not get any new points for them (i.e. making bowls, scoring 50+ points after 10/9, etc.), you will only get points based on your new pick.  Same rule applies for your new pick, if Ohio State starts out 7-0 you do not get past points, you only get the points that occur after 10/9.  You do not have to exchange any teams if you don't want to and you can choose to exchange 1 or 2 instead of all 3.  I will send out a reminder a few days before.

Money can be sent the following ways:

PayPal: rwdpeanut@gmail.com
Address: 1067 Whirlaway Ave.  Naperville, IL 60540
In person when I see some of you

If you have any questions or want to forward this to anyone that may be interested, feel free to do so, just ensure they send the spreadsheet back by Sunday, 8/25.

Thanks!
